Let me start off by saying that flowers and I have a complicated relationship. Sure, they’re beautiful, diverse, and brighten up a room, but then there’s the matter of keeping them alive and not sneezing my head off when they’re in the same room.
That’s why I’ve set out to find a few different crafts that involve flowers, but take away the negative parts of the equation. No sneezing and no need to worry about keeping today’s craft alive; once all is said and done, this craft can be done with any type of flower you can imagine and can be done for any season!

A lot of my ideas are Pinterest inspired, and this one is no exception. However, I put my own spin on it and now you have the beautiful craft you see before you: The Scrapwood Flower Sign. It’s easy and affordable to do, so let’s get into it!
Materials:
Scrapwood
Sandpaper
Vinyl
Spray Paint or Paint & Brush
Sawtooth Hook
Tools:
Cricut or Silhouette Machine
Optional Tool:
Saw to Cut Your Wood
1. Start off by choosing what flower you want on your wood. You’ll want it to be about a quarter inch away from each of the sides at least and about equidistant from the top and bottom. As part of this craft, you can also customize with a word or phrase at the bottom.
How To Choose Your Flower
There are already plenty of svgs out there to use for Cricut & Silhouette, but if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to find and make your own. I am a big fan of Canva (a free design website with tons of free images) so I went through their stock of flowers and chose several that I was then able to convert into svgs. This is key, though: if you’re making your own svg, you’ll want a flower that has most if not all the lines connected. This project becomes very tedious if you have dozens of individual pieces that you need to place individually onto the wood. That being said, if that’s the look you really want, go for it1 Just be aware that it’ll require a lot more patience and time.

2. Cut and prep your wood to size. Be sure to sand down any rough spots on the wood by hand or with a sander to make sure that you don’t damage your walls/display.
3. Use your Cricut or Silhouette machine to cut out your design on vinyl. The good news is, this vinyl won’t be on the finished product, so you can use scraps of whatever you need to get rid of for this craft.
4. Thoroughly press the vinyl onto the smoothest side of the wood. Make sure that it is 100% down and attached to the wood, because if it’s not, your picture won’t be clear at the end of the day.

5. Now it comes down to painting. You can spray paint the sign over the vinyl decal and on the sides, or you can paint over it by hand with a brush and acrylic paint. If you do it by hand, paint away from the vinyl wherever possible. That way, if any of your vinyl actually was loose, you have less risk of catching it underneath and getting paint where you don’t want it.
6. Allow your sign to dry for about one day. Once it’s completely set, go ahead and peel off the vinyl decal. You’ll be left with paint all around the stencil and the flower itself will show the wood underneath, which gives it a perfect, natural look.
7. Attach your sawtooth hook to the back for convenient hanging and then you’re done!

Once I got comfortable with this craft, I knew that I’d have to do it again and again with slight variations.

I’m sure there are a ton more ways to make your flower sign, but that’s all for today! Be sure to share any of your creations in the comments and follow the blog for more crafts.
Happy DIYing!
